Coastal Skipper
The aim of this course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. JSASTC conduct the practical course followed by the Certificate of Competence examination, the minimum pre-course experience should be 30 days onboard a yacht, 800 sea miles and 12 night hours. At least 2 of the days should have been spent as skipper. You are also required to send a photocopy of the last 2 years of entries in your log book before your application can be considered.
Candidates should ensure that, prior to starting this course, their standard of navigation is equal to the YACHTMASTER SHOREBASED COURSE and their practical sailing ability is that of the DaySkipper practical course.
The course is conducted over a 7 day period, returning to JSASTC on Thursday evening. The examiner will then embark and conduct the examination over the weekend. The process is normally completed by mid-Sunday.
Prior to the examination, candidates should hold Short range (VHF) Radio and First Aid qualifications.
