RN Volleyball Association
By RNVA Chairman
Volleyball is a technical game of simple skills yet it is a fast moving and exiting game to play. Volleyball has come a long way from the dusty-old YMCA gymnasium of Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA, where visionary, William G. Morgan, invented the sport back in 1895. Volleyball is now one of the big five international sports, and the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, with its 220 affiliated national federations, is the largest international sporting federation in the world. Volleyball has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last decade. With much success throughout world competitions including the Olympic Games, participation at all levels continues to grow.
I have been playing and been involved with RN Volleyball for the best part of 31 years and I have had the privilege of playing the sport not only UK wide but in countries as far a field as Australia, Hong Kong and USA. We regularly play against the other Armed Forces and take part in the prestige UK Crown Services Championships, which involves the 3 Armed Forces, Prison, Police and Fire Services.
You too could enjoy playing an exciting sport that gives opportunities to travel. We are currently re-generating our teams and would love to see you at our regular training camps - why not contact the Men’s Manager or Ladies Manager and come along; we will welcome you whatever your standard.
